Jill Gordonís career in Art and Design started when she met Kaffe Fassett in the early 1970s. It was Kaffe who encouraged Jill to start painting and supported her early work, organising shows of her paintings in London. Again, it was Kaffe who got Jill started designing and stitching needlepoint and later cross-stitch works; he has been a close friend and mentor ever since. Jill has designed for Ehrman tapestries, John Lewis and private collectors.
Jill was born in Sussex, England, but has spent much of her life moving around the UK and further afield. She spent a year working in Israel on a kibbutz and later lived for four years in the former Yugoslavia. She has also lived in some of the most beautiful parts of the UK. These experiences have had a major impact on the way she works and uses colour and her love and appreciation of nature is a major theme for all her work. Jill has written several books, the most well-known being The Tapestry Book and Tapestry Collection.
Jill lives in rural Staffordshire, enjoying walking her dogs around the beautiful paths of the Peak District and taking in the scenery, which inspires her work.
